About The Counter
We don't need another best 10 air fryers list.
What we needed — and what we couldn't find anywhere — was a small, opinionated weekly edit of kitchen tools that earn their counter space. So we built it.
Why we're doing this
Kitchen-product reviews online are broken.
Half of what you find is SEO-stuffed content farms — "The 15 Best Stand Mixers of 2026, Ranked!" — written to capture clicks, not to help you decide. The other half is paid placements dressed up as reviews. Amazon's own star ratings get gamed by review bots. Manufacturer pages are press releases.
Somewhere in the noise is a small set of products that quietly do what they promise for ten years. Those are the products worth telling you about. The rest aren't.
What we believe
Five rules that shape every pick.

Curation over volume.
One pick a week. Maybe two. Never twenty. If we don't have something we'd genuinely recommend in a category, we stay quiet.

Specifics over superlatives.
"Freezes a pint in 24 hours and spins in two minutes" beats "revolutionary technology." Concrete claims you can verify, never marketing-speak.

Trade-offs in plain sight.
Every product has people it's wrong for. We name them. If you bake twice a year, we'll tell you to skip the $400 mixer and buy the $150 one.

Three alternatives, always.
Every pick comes with the budget option, the premium option, and the closest competitor. So you can compare without leaving the page — and so you know we considered them.

Honest about what we don't know.
We don't run a controlled test lab. We don't accept free samples. What we do bring is a perspective shaped by the data signals that matter: sustained sales velocity, manufacturer specs, verified review volume, longevity track records. When we're unsure, we say so — and we link to the people who do have testing labs.
How a product makes the cut
We start with the data and end with a judgment call.
Every week, we scan tens of thousands of kitchen products across Amazon's best-seller and new-release lists, layering in real-time price data and manufacturer specifications. From that funnel, a few dozen survive a category-specific scoring step: how does this product's key specs compare to its peers? Is the price-per-feature defensible? Does the buyer pool seem credible?
That short list lands on our desk for editorial judgment. We weigh longevity, brand reliability, kitchen-fit (will it actually get used, or sit in a cabinet?), and serviceability. Most candidates get cut. The one that survives gets the full review.

On the money
We earn a commission. We'd never bend a pick for one.
The Counter is funded by affiliate revenue. When you click through to Amazon from one of our pages and buy something, we get a small commission — usually 4% of the cart, sometimes less. This is true for our recommended pick AND for every alternative on the page. We earn whichever you choose.
That model only works long-term if you trust the recommendations. Which is why we'd genuinely rather lose the commission than tell you the wrong product is best. There is no version of this site that recommends a worse air fryer because the better one pays us less. We won't do it.
We also don't run sponsored posts, we don't accept samples in exchange for coverage, and we don't take payment from brands to be included. If you ever see one of our reviews drift away from these rules, please check our disclosure and call us on it.
